Henry Auwae, Kahuna La'au Lapa'au

From the age of ten, Henry Auwae learned the art of la'au lapa'au (medicinal herbs) from his grandmother. In this video, he shares his knowledge at a workshop in Keaukaha, demonstrating the preparation of healing herbs and minerals. Later, during a visit to Wao Kele o Puna rain forest, "Papa" Auwae identifies rare medicinal plants and speaks to the importance of preserving their natural habitat.
